Building Renovations

Renovation 1 In May of 2007, the Chesterfield Township Board approved a one and one half million dollar renovation to the police building. The current property was purchased in September 1999, when the location on Gratiot Avenue, that had served as the communities Township Hall and Fire Department since 1961, was deemed unsafe for use. The police building, located on Continental Drive, was constructed as an industrial building and did not conform to police operational requirements.

Demolition to the facility began on January 4th, and the entire project was completed in mid August. The new construction included new locker rooms for men and women, a redesigned cell block, patrol sergeant’s office, detective bureau and records section. In addition, a much needed report writing room, interview rooms, additional office space and a squad/training room were added.

Renovation 3 Throughout the 8 month construction project employees continued to perform the day to day duties within the building. Every employee was required to deviate from their normal operation and had to endure the noise and dust of construction but together everyone managed to continue to provide uninterrupted service to the citizens of Chesterfield Township.
