L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Against Drugs)
The Chesterfield Police Department has initiated a new program to equip the parents with tools needed to detect/prevent drug use in their children. The program, Law Enforcement Against Drugs (LEAD), allows the law enforcement community to take an active role in helping parents respond quickly to suspected drug/alcohol used by their children.
The LEAD program will offer parents access to low cost, self administered, in home drug and alcohol screening kits. The kits are simple to use and results are available within minutes. The kits can screen for alcohol and drugs including cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine (speed), morphine, ecstasy, PCP, and other designer drugs.
Included in the kit is an educational brochure that describes some of the common symptoms to look for in your child if you suspect drug or alcohol use. LEAD has established a parent HELPLINE 1-800-284-5444. The hotline provides support for interpreting the test, and offers parents a variety of options and referrals on what preventative steps can be taken if the tests reveal use of alcohol or drugs. The Chesterfield Police Department recommends if the test is positive to contact one of the following locations for more information and further testing. There is no need to contact the Police Department if the result is positive. All results are confidential information. |
